1994 Impala SS
I bought the 94 Impala in the summer of 2001, excited to have a cool car to head off to college! This was also the first car I actually bought and it was my daily driver for many years. My friends and I were definitely influenced by The Fast and the Furious movies. My friend even opened an auto accessories shop where we all hung out and helped with the store. With my friend's help, I added blue neons, window tints and flowmaster mufflers, even taking the car to street races late at night! On one occasion, we went to the street races near Doty Rd and Stoney Island. I was in my friend's car and we lined up on the side to get ready for the races. Soon after, everybody started running back to their cars, saying the cops were coming. So, we also got in the car and headed out. But then the cars began stopping again. Well, cops were coming from both ends! So, we just had to sit there and wait to get our ticket for blocking the roadway!
While I never did race the car on the streets, I did take it to Great Lakes Dragway numerous times. It was really exciting to run the quarter mile with it. I don't quite exactly remember my best time, but I think it was between 17-19 seconds.
I work in sales, so I drive a lot. I knew I wanted to keep the car, ultimately my goal is to restore it and take it to car shows. So, I began storing it at my parents house and bought a work car. Unfortunately, the longer it stays in their garage, the less and less I drive it. When I do take it out, it's almost guaranteed that someone will ask me if I want to sell it! But, at this point, I know there are things that will need to be addressed to keep the car in good working order. So, I hope to identify the main issues and make some repairs to get it back into shape.
